Penetanguishene

Whether you arrive by car or by boat, be sure to enjoy a leisurely walk through Penetanguishene's downtown area. Experience the picturesque view of Georgian Bay from the historic port of Penetanguishene or the waterfront park area. From the newly erected statue of the Huron Giant Kitchikewana to the wetlands revitalization area, the paved paths are designed for walking, bicycle, and roller blade enthusiasts.

If it's shopping opportunities you're looking for, Penetanguishene merchants will be able to satisfy your need. Gift stores carry unique items, including handcrafted Canadian products and the latest in fashion. A number of antique and collectible shops offer one-of-a-kind and gently used treasures. The local book stores will provide you with the reading material you need for the entire family. Grocery, pharmacies and beverage stores are available to meet your routine shopping requirements. After shopping, stay to enjoy a meal at one of our fine dining establishments. Local restaurants provide everything from family dining for the whole gang to romantic dinners for two.

If studying the history of Penetanguishene is part of your plans, stop by the Centennial Museum for a quaint glimpse of the past. Located in the 1875 Beck General Store, the Museum also hosts the Penetanguishene Sports Hall of Fame, a replica Fire Hall, Genealogical Research Room as well as the Timber Bay gift shop.

Discovery Harbour, located on Penetanguishene Bay, traces its history back to His Majesty's Naval Establishment in the early 1800's. The events surrounding the War of 1812 provided the spark to construct an active naval dockyard at this location. Today, Discovery Harbour is a heritage attraction that tells the story of this once-thriving British Base complete with historic tall ships, reconstructed buildings, and the original Officers' Quarters.
